BURLINGTON, VT (April 17, 2014) – Today, Burton Snowboards is excited to announce it has partnered with Mt. Hood Meadows Resort to bring year-round, youth focused learn to ride programs to Oregon, including a PE Snowboarding Program for elementary school kids and a permanent Riglet Park. Bringing world-class snowboarding instruction, interactive games, activities and Burton gear, these youth programs promise fun on and off the mountain for the whole family.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Mt. Hood Meadows Resort to make snowboarding more accessible and build youth participation,” said Jeff Boliba, Vice President of Global Resorts for Burton Snowboards. “Kids are the heart of our sport and Mt. Hood Meadows shares our passion and commitment to riders. We’re excited to help them teach little riders as young as three years-old and get more kids snowboarding in the Northwest.”
“Mt. Hood Meadows is excited to partner with Burton to create engaging, stimulating and fun introductory experiences for young people,” said Chris Kastner, Director of Snow Sports Services for Mt. Hood Meadows. “Burton has pioneered giving kids as young as three an awesome introduction to snowboarding so they can enjoy mountain recreation. This partnership will extend that passion and excitement from our slopes to local school gyms and events, which is truly exciting for us.”
To kick things off, yesterday, Burton partnered with Mt. Hood Meadows Resort to host a PE Snowboarding day at the Portland School of Experiential Education. Since gym class is a favorite for many kids, the PE Snowboarding Program introduces kids to the sport and helps teach the basics of balance, core strength, and agility. With Burton’s teaching tools like Riglet Boards, Riglet Hover Covers and Riglet Reels, combined with balance boards, grab mat game and more, kids get to experience snowboarding’s movements and balance while exercising at the same time.
As a natural extension of the retail and demo partnership Mt. Hood Meadows has had with Burton for years, the resort also plans to become an authorized Learn To Ride Center in time for next season. Burton Learn To Ride programs for kids and adults offer hands-on lessons from the best-trained coaches so that everyone can experience the fun and excitement of snowboarding. Stay tuned for more details this summer.
Finally, kids in the Portland area will have tons of fun this winter at the new Burton Riglet Park at Mt. Hood Meadows, the first of its kind in the state. Riglet Parks are like a snowboarding playground because they give kids from ages 3 to 6 a fun introduction to the foundations of snowboarding through play and guided discovery. Through Burton’s global Riglet Snowboarding Program, coaches, resorts, and families are finding all kinds of success getting kids on snowboards as soon as they can fit into Burton’s Kids’ XS Boot, which is usually around three years of age. And with the Riglet Reel tow cable kids can discover the sensation of riding on their own anywhere.
