BURLINGTON, VT (February 5, 2014) Today, Burton Snowboards is excited to announce that the 32nd annual US Open Snowboarding Championships presented by MINI will once again bring world-class snowboarding and entertainment to Vail Mountain Resort. Taking place from March 3rd – 8th, this year’s entertainment line-up is jam-packed with a variety of live music acts and free, all-day après events fit for the whole family.
Kicking off the evening concerts, Big Gigantic, an instrumental live electronic, hip hop and jazz group based in Boulder, Colorado, will perform a FREE concert on Friday, March 7th at the Solaris Concert Stage in Vail following slopestyle finals. Known for their lively sets and magnetic visual light shows, Colorado’s favorite live act is sure to set a high-energy tone for the US Open as it moves into the weekend. For a first taste before seeing them live, check out their new album launching this month titled, “The Night is Young”.
On Saturday, March 8th, exploding musical act, Capital Cities, will take center stage at Solaris for a FREE show after the US Open’s legendary halfpipe finals. The indie pop band made it big after last year’s release of their hit single, “Safe and Sound”, and they bring good vibes and positivity wherever they perform. After the Capital Cities show, the party will move to Vail’s Dobson Ice Arena for the annual US Open Closing Party with a surprise lineup of top artists.
And those are just the nighttime activities. At this year’s US Open, the fun will continue through the day with the Après All Day Lounge at the Solaris Ice Rink from Wednesday through Saturday. Open and free to the public, the rink will be transformed into an all-day, open-air après lounge and will be the central hub for guests to hang out, get cozy, access free Wi-Fi, charge their phones and watch the competition on screens placed throughout the area. Presenting partner MINI will also be onsite offering MINI test drives and passing out giveaways. The café within the lounge will feature drink specials from US Open partners Pacifico and Mountain Dew, and live DJ’s will spin in between the live competition feed. In addition to all this, Après All Day satellite hubs will be located throughout the resort at favorite Vail spots like Larkspur, Garfinkels, Red Lion and Tavern on the Square. Each location will host live competition feeds, drink specials, guest rider appearances and promo giveaways.
Finally, there’s plenty of entertainment for the whole family as a special Burton Riglet Park will be set up in the Lionshead base area to offer a Learn to Ride experience for kids 3 to 6 years of age, complete with coaches and gear provided free of charge.
