Who would have thought during the first Longboard Classic that this event still stokes snowboarders fifteen years on?! The once small event was created based on having fun snowboarding. It has grown into the world's largest snowboard race in terms of attendance. A yearly growing number snowboarders make the pilgrimage to the Arlberg to become part of the "Woodstock of Snowboarding"! Snowboard legends from all corners of the world love it as much as snowboard pioneers and today's groms!
This year we are particularly happy to welcome Chuck Barfoot from Santa Barbara/USA to the Longboard Classic. Back in the late 1970s Chuck regularly surfed with Tom Sims and built his own boards. Chuck is one of the four Godfathers of Snowboarding – next to Jake Burton, Tom Sims and Dimitrij Milovitch.
In April 2014, the race will once again kick off on Saturday. It begins with a Le-Mans-style mass start on the Albona Ridge up on 2,408 meters of altitude. The participants battle for the titles LBC Masters, Old School and No School. However, it is not so much about making it onto the podium as it is about meeting old friends, making new ones and enjoy snowboarding together with like-minded people. That's the essence of the LBC!
On Friday night things kick off in the "Mondschein-Bar" with the DJ collective Mortal Kombat. On Saturday the band A NUDE A will take the stage prior to the prize-giving. Longboards and freeride equipment can be tested at several booths.
During the film night on Saturday true snowboard history gems will flicker on the screen! You can look forward to some rare snowboard flicks! Longboard Classic veterans already know what goes down afterwards: a real snowboard party – loud, wild and all night long! Party with your friends!
Optional advance registration is possible on the LBC Facebook page. The official registration will take place on the event day in the big tent from 7.30 to 10.30 in the morning.
