Lincoln, N.H. (Sept. 1, 2017) – Loon Mountain Resort is pleased to announce the appointment of Jay Scambio, current director of mountain sports development for Boyne Resorts, as the resort’s new president and general manager. Rick Kelley, Loon Mountain’s current president and general manager, has been promoted to senior vice president of ski and mountain sports operations for Boyne Resorts.
Jay Scambio began his career in the ski industry as a snowboarding coach at Loon Mountain in 1998. Upon graduating from Plymouth State University in 2002, he stepped into the role of terrain park manager at Loon Mountain. When Boyne Resorts acquired operations of Loon in 2007, he was promoted to direct terrain park development for all of Boyne’s resorts. In 2015, he was named director of mountain sports development for Boyne, a job that included leadership of snowsports schools and programs, as well as summer and adventure activities. He has served on numerous National Ski Area Association (NSAA) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) committees and brings a wealth of innovative thought to industry-wide discussions and initiatives. His roots as a member of the Loon team, passion for his work, and drive to innovate and enhance the guest experience provide the highest confidence that Scambio is an ideal fit for the president and general manager role at Loon Mountain, and as a newcomer to the company’s senior management team. Scambio and his wife, Katie, live with their two children in North Woodstock, N.H.

Rick Kelley, who has served as the resort’s president and general manager since 1998, will transition into his new role as senior vice president of ski and mountain sports operations for Boyne Resorts this fall. Kelley has more than 40 years of experience in the ski industry, having started as a snowmaker at Loon Mountain in 1977. He progressed through a variety of positions at Loon, including lift maintenance and operations before stepping into a management role early in his career. Kelley joined the Boyne Resorts team in 2007 when the company, through a sale/lease-back transaction, acquired operation of Loon Mountain, where he has served as the resort’s president and general manager for the past 19 years. As general manager, he has led resort improvement projects totaling more than $25 million, including the opening of the South Peak expansion in 2007; the installation of four chairlifts and a gondola; a massive expansion of the resort’s snowmaking arsenal, and implementation of a full array of on-mountain activities and features that have helped the resort earn a high rank among New England’s most popular summer and fall destinations. In his new role as senior vice president of ski and mountain operations, Kelley will extend his ski and mountain operations oversight to most Boyne Resort locations, including Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain in Michigan; Brighton Resort in Utah; Cypress Mountain in Vancouver, B.C.; Sugarloaf and Sunday River in Maine; The Summit at Snoqualmie in Washington; and also at Loon. Kelley has served as a member of the NSAA board of directors and as past president of Ski NH. He and his wife, Ann, live in Lincoln, N.H.
