The official news:
Spring Park Opens at Mt. Hood Meadows Featuring Mid-Winter Conditions
Constructed in Partnership with Snow Park Technologies, One of the Longest, Most Progressive Parks in the Country Offers Innovative Design
MT. HOOD, Ore. – April 3, 2014 – Following Mt. Hood Meadows’ recent announcement surrounding its partnership with renowned terrain park builders, Snow Park Technologies (SPT) on the design and construction of Spring Park, Mother Nature joined the fun and assisted with the build as well, dropping more than three feet of new snow on the resort in the past week. The resort boasts a 134” base snow depth, ensuring a long season. Now open daily to the public, the Mt. Hood Meadows Spring Park consists of 30 small, medium and large features that span 4,600 feet and a 1,000 vertical foot descent.
“Meadows Spring Park – 2014 is our most recent example of new generation park design at Mt. Hood Meadows. Our focus continues to be on fun, flow, and unique combinations of interesting features that create an awesome natural rhythmic riding experience. Early riders haven’t been shy about telling us how stoked they are about the quality and length of this unique spring park build,” said Matthew Drake, Chairman and CEO of Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort. “Our crew, along with the super talented builders from SPT, worked hard through this past storm cycle to deliver a free flowing and exhilarating riding experience that we know our riders will love to hit over and over – particularly with all of the new snow we’ve received, and under sunny Spring skies at Mt. Hood Meadows!”
One of the longest terrain parks in the country, Spring Park offers nearly a mile of jumps, rails and other features that begin on the upper mountain accessed from the Vista Express chairlift, take advantage of the natural fall line terrain from the upper elevations of Vista, continue on the lower mountain through Daisy Bowl, and end at the entrance to the resort’s freshly cut 18-foot halfpipe. Designed for all levels of riders to enjoy together, no matter what their skill set, Spring Park is peppered with rails, combo jibs and wall rides. Spring Park favors medium and large features, geared toward more advanced skiers and riders.
SPT, recognized as the leader in terrain park design and construction, designed the park and collaborated with the Mt. Hood Meadows terrain park crew on the build.
“One of the more challenging aspects of the build has been trying to construct this park while at the same time receiving massive amounts of snow from these latest storm systems. Despite that, building Spring Park at Meadows has been one of the most fun projects this season,” said Tyson Terpening, SPT operator. “The overall length of the park, the fun factor and variety of features, and the fact that it flows directly into the pipe really set it apart.”
Mt. Hood Meadows is scheduled to remain open daily through April 27, with weekend operations continuing the first two weekends in May, conditions permitting.
