New Snowboard Super Final Pits Finalists Against Holland for $5,000 Prize
Truckee, Calif. (November 12, 2013) – Nate Holland, 7-time X-Games Champ and U.S. Olympic Snowboarder, has just signed on as Rahlves’ Banzai Tour Snowboard Ambassador. The 2014 Rahlves Banzai Tour (RBT) has added a new event, the Men Snowboard Super Final, with $5,000 on the line in a winner takes all at Sugar Bowl’s “Silver Belt Banzai” March 15-16. Four men snowboard winners, one from each stop at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Sugar Bowl Resort, will line up at Sugar Bowl against Holland for the chance to take top honors as the snowboard Banzai Master.
“I’m fired up to load the Super Finals gate at Sugar Bowl, and proud to be an ambassador of the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour,” said Holland, a Tahoe local.
“I admire Nate’s hard charging style, passion for snowboarding and life. He’s a tough competitor with amazing board skills who has that Banzai fire. He will have his work cut out for him, but his all-out approach will be there for the Super Final. Those in the gate with Nate—the winningest rider in the history of boardercross—will have an opportunity of a lifetime,” said 4-time Olympian, Sugar Bowl Resort ambassador and tour founder Daron Rahlves. “Nate has a busy winter ahead of him competing in the World Cup, X-Games and the Olympic Games in Sochi, as well as the Banzai Tour. He will be a serious contender in all of them,” Rahlves added.
The high-speed action of the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour spans four weekends in 2014 at premier Lake Tahoe resorts:
- Kirkwood Mountain Resort February 8-9
- Squaw Valley February 15-16
- Alpine Meadows March 8-9
- Sugar Bowl Resort March 15-16
Four competitors each in Men Ski and Men Snowboard who earn their place by winning a tour stop (or being the next in line if there’s a repeat winner in one of the events) advance to the Super Finals to compete for $5,000 in the Men Ski Super Final against Daron Rahlves and $5,000 in the Men Snowboard Super Final against Nate Holland.
The new Men Snowboard Super Final is the second snowboarding-related addition for the 2014 Rahlves’ Banzai Tour. Earlier this year, Rahlves announced that he would be honoring the competitive spirit of Chelone “Chilly” Miller, last year’s Overall Men Snowboard winner, by introducing the “Live Free and Send It” award. “The award will go to the competitor who embodies the free-spirit, skill and love of competition Chilly brought to the Banzai,” said Rahlves. It will be a yearly tribute passed on at the finals of the RBT.
New Tour sponsors GoPro and Alaska Airlines are increasing the value and excitement, with GoPro capturing all the action and Alaska Airlines awarding four round-trip flights to any Alaska Airlines destination to each of the four overall Tour winners. They will also offer the “Alaska Airlines Long Flight Award” of $100 Alaska Airlines bucks for best air during the Sunday finals at each Tour stop.
The 2014 Tour will once again be broadcast live on Truckee and Lake Tahoe’s own 101.5FM, who have also partnered with Alaska Airlines to send two lucky winners with round-trip airfare to Cordova as part of the station’s annual Points North Heli Ski Giveaway.
The Rahlves’ Banzai Tour Presented by Bank of the West is proud to be associated with Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl Resort, Red Bull, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., CEP Compression, Wend Wax, Lake Tahoe North, Tahoe Center for Orthopedics, Jagermeister , Alaska Airlines, and GoPro.
