O'Neill, Teton Gravity Research and Jeremy Jones to Premiere Highly-Anticipated Backcountry Snowboarding and Adventure Film,'Further,' this Fall
Snowboard release of the year and second in film trilogy from Teton Gravity Research will follow Jones to remote areas of Alaska, Japan, California and Europe in pursuit of untouched backcountry terrain
Montreal, Canada (June 18, 2012)– O'Neill, the original surf, snow and youth lifestyle brand for 60 years, will take fans on a remarkable expedition to explore some of the best backcountry terrain in the world with the premiere of Teton Gravity Research's (TGR) new snowboard and adventure film, Jeremy Jones' 'Further.' This is the second two-year project in a film trilogy from O'Neill and the award-winning action sports team at TGR, entitled 'Deeper, Further, Higher.'
Drawing on a lifetime of experience, Jones leads his crew of world-class riders, cameramen and guides to the far corners of the Earth in a snowboard film unlike any seen before. Shot in the Japanese Alps, Atomfjella Mountains in Svalbard, the Karwendel Range in Austria and the Wrangell Mountains in Alaska, Jones and his crew leave the luxuries of home behind and encounter a number of challenges in their search for pristine backcountry snow, including subzero temperatures, avalanches, high altitudes and other unexpected natural elements.
Following the success of the first film in the trilogy, 'Deeper' (2010), the team spent months of research and physical training to prepare for 'Further,' which upped the ante with longer trips and higher mountain peaks. The team continues to rely on splitboards, a hybrid between skis and snowboard that helps riders climb difficult terrain. Splitboarding is now the fastest growing segment in snowboarding.
“Making this movie was incredible and I'm so grateful to all the teams involved in making it happen,” said Jones. “The TGR crew did an incredible job capturing our expeditions, and O'Neill provided the best snow gear I could ask for in those harsh conditions. There's something amazing about a group effort when everyone pulls together and great things happen."
A unique element to 'Further' from other snowboard films is the ongoing theme of living in the moment and enduring difficult challenges, as the team pushes one another to discover themselves and pristine riding terrain. Along with the TGR film crew, riders joining Jones include Terje Haakonsen, Lucas Debari, Josh Dirksen, Forrest Shearer, Ryland Bell, Bibi Pekarek, and Mitch Toelderer.
“Whether it was going to places too remote for helicopters, camping in -20 temperatures, being caught by avalanches, 24 days camped in the biggest wilderness in the world or embracing splitboarding, going deeper and further to the possibilities of the human spirit is what I wanted to accomplish,” added Jones. "From the outset, I aimed to push the limits and see where the journey could take us; I think everyone will agree the payoff was worth it in the end. The footage is insane, and our stories are just as good."
Jones has been a fixture on the O'Neill Snow team for more than 10 years and has helped the brand's design teams create a signature apparel collection suited to his needs in extreme conditions. Featured styles launching as part of the 2012-13 collection include the Jones 3 Layer Shell, Jones 2-Layer Jacket, Jones Packable Down Jacket and Jones 3 Layer Shell Pant, all created with sustainable, waterproof and breathable materials. The 'Further' release continues a yearlong 60th anniversary celebration for O'Neill, which started in Santa Cruz, California back in 1952. O'Neill is a brand well known for its love of the outdoors and adventure, whether in the snow or water. Jones was among O'Neill's first notable snow athletes who embodied the brand's adventurous lifestyle, while helping to popularize the sport of backcountry snowboarding as eight-time 'Big Mountain Rider of the Year.' His sustainable apparel collection and work with Protect Our Winters have also made Jones a champion for environmental awareness, particularly in mountain regions.

O'Neill, the original California surf, snow and youth lifestyle brand, was founded in 1952 when a young man named Jack O'Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game. Pioneering the world's first neoprene wetsuit, Jack had successfully found a way to extend his surf sessions in the bone-chilling breaks of Northern California. He opened up the garage doors to his first surf shop in Santa Cruz soon after.
While many things have changed since those humble beginnings, Jack's initial vision of producing functional and innovative boardriding products continues to lie at the core of everything the company does. O'Neill's core values – innovation in style and technology – have seen the brand devote itself wholeheartedly to the evolution of the action sports lifestyle. From the first ever neoprene wetsuit and surf leash, to the world's first stitchless boardshorts and range of groundbreaking wearable electronics, O'Neill's progressive spirit will always drive the company forward.
