Lake Tahoe, Calif. – Two-time Olympian Elena Hight and her fellow American snowboard hopefuls approach the summit of their four-year climb to Sochi. Months of grueling training and thousands of miles crossing the globe now come down to a single week that makes or breaks Olympic dreams. Hight Hopes, Chapter 3: A New Focus, part three of a six-webisode series, gives viewers the rare chance to join Hight for a personal account of her winter journey that is all the more poignant with added Olympic stakes (TRT: 3:02). The entire series is available at youtube.com/ElenaHight.
Elena Hight, one of the snowboard world’s elite athletes, burst on the scene at age 13 as the first woman ever to land a 900 (two and one-half rotations) in competition. An Olympic rookie at 16, Hight claimed 6th in Turin; then four years ago, she was disappointed with her 10th place Vancouver finish.
Now at 24, Hight has been vying to make her third Olympic squad. At the 2013 X Games in Aspen, Hight landed the FIRST EVER double backside alley-oop rodeo by either man or woman in a halfpipe competition – a feat that has taken women’s snowboarding to new levels. Last summer, in between daily training in the gym and on mountain, Elena was featured in ESPN The Magazine’s Body issue as one of sport’s most admired physiques.
Hight is competing at the X Games in Aspen this Saturday, January 25 in Snowboard SuperPipe (to air on ESPN3 at 8:30 pm ET and on ESPN at 9 pm ET).
