The US Grand Prix Olympic Qualifying series is under way and the requisite drama is playing out as it was expected to. Despite top tier riders like Luke Mitrani and Kevin Pearce not advancing out of the semi-final round, the rest of the field is still showcasing just how gnarly halfpipe riding has become. Though the semi-final results may seem somewhat predictable with Shaun White and Louie Vito at the top, it is no longer a foregone conclusion that White will sweep the qualifying series like he did in 2006. What isn’t a surprise is the American domination of the event. With the same field of international talent as is slated for Vancouver, only 6 riders from outside the USA advanced to Saturdays finals.
