SNOWBOARDER Magazine’s unbiased blank snowboard test, The Blackboard Experiment. Ten snowboard brands provided us with a snowboard of their choice, but the one caveat was that it had to have a black topsheet and base graphic, so as to keep the anonymity of the brand only between them and us. Sage Kotsenburg, 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic gold medalist tested every deck, putting it through the paces in Mammoth Mountain’s hallowed Main Park.
The above video features the snowboard Sage deemed the Best 2017 Jib Board, the Smokin Hooligan. When dropping into a rail, box, bonk or wallride (or other unique feature), you want a board that is going to be soft enough to press and flex, but responsive enough to make minor adjustments on take off and landing as needed. The Smokin Hooligan has the right combination of tip to tail flexibility and torsional snap to take you from down rail to DFD and beyond. Check out the full review of the Smokin Hooligan, including how the board scored in other areas of the mountain.
