It wasn’t much longer than a few seasons ago that Ben Ferguson’s in bounds abilities captivated onlookers with his explosive, yet controlled presence and cameras pointed their lenses at this Bend, Oregon native en masse. Ben Ferg is a member of a rare class of young snowboarder, one whose abilities belie their age and with each passing year, their momentum grows substantially. While Ben first shone within the walls of the halfpipe at major competitions like the US Open and had a fearless, yet calculated penchant for sending himself off the finely sculpted tranny of hips at Superpark and The Launch, his in air ability was only matched by his inclination and expertise to stay low to the groomers when turning his snowboard. But the boundaries of the park can’t contain Ferg and last season he tested his Mt. Bachelor-bred chops in the backcountry, exhibiting, what else but a natural talent for going beyond the ropes into Mother Nature’s backyard. In this episode of Burton Presents, in Cooke City, Ferg drops cliffs and shreds powder with Danny Davis. In Switzerland, he links up with Terje Haakonsen and Christian Haller and holds his own in The Alps. Then, finally it’s off to Danny Davis’ Peace Park and finally his first trip to the treacherous mountains of Alaska, highlight the elder Ferg’s comfort on any and all features. His success in AK shouldn’t come as any surprise though, because judging by how well this young Burton rider sets a line on steep, corduroy-laden snow, it’s no surprise he transitions between different terrain with an unprecedented ease.
