Dispatches – Kamp K2 2013

Each year, K2 gives back to the shops that spend all year purveying the K2 line of products, by awarding select store employees with a trip out to a debaucherous, shred-filled weekend at Kamp K2. Retail is such an integral component of the snowboarding community, so it is pretty great that K2 offers such a unique getaway to honor their shops. While the location of Kamp K2 changes every few years, the theme remains the same: a weekend to wrap up and celebrate the season, get in some turns, and have a lot of fun. This year’s event took place at Crystal Mountain in Washington, about two hours from K2’s Seattle headquarters. K2 rented out a mess of condos right next to the baselodge, in a large, rustic-looking building that opened up into a giant courtyard. Dark green wood and Uncle Sam Kamp K2 posters all around contributed to a definite feeling of adult summer camp. Kampers were treated to some good ol’ fashioned Washington weather (read: it was rainy), but the snow was still really good and there was no shortage of apres activities to keep everyone stoked when they were off hill. There was plenty of adult beverages, thanks to Kamp K2 sponsor Coors, a mechanical bull, an epic dance party with music from DJ Mullet (he even played Bell Biv DeVoe for you readers who were born before 1990), and a host of folks becoming fast friends under the foggy haze provided by Mother Nature and the ample supply of beer. Thank you Powell, Alyssa, and the whole gang at K2 for an awesome weekend.
