For the past four summers, the Drink Water Rat Race has been an annual gathering of the best turners in snowboarding. The ranks of the elite make the annual pilgrimage to Oregon to test their metal edges on the hairiest banked slalom course of the year, the bermy brainchild of Austin Smith, Bryan Fox, Stephen Fox, and Curtis Ciszek laid out in High Cascade Snowboard Camp. And every year, the Rat Race has humbled even the most seasoned snowboarder, making the race one of the most celebrated events of the calendar year as friends, rookies, and legends coalesce on Oregon’s summertime glacial paradise to best the course. On July 11, 2016, the Fifth Annual Drink Water Rat Race returns to Mt. Hood in all its summertime glory.
More than just a contest, the Rat Race is a warm season reunion that benefits a great cause, Water.org, a non-profit that provides clean, drinking water to those in need around the world. This year, for the fifth annual iteration of the Rat Race, it’s even easier to be a part of the fun and fundraising as for the first time the Drink Water crew is opening up racing spots via a lottery. You can enter the lottery here for the chance to race against your idols, riders like Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Muller, Devun Walsh, Ben Ferguson, Tim Eddy, Iikka Backstrom, Max and Gus Warbington, and many more, and of course Austin, Bryan, and Curtis.
