There are roughly 5.5 million people in the state of Minnesota. We aren’t exactly sure what percentage of that population snowboards, but we are positive every single one of them was in Minneapolis, MN last week to celebrate the world premiere of Tommy Gesme’s signature project with adidas snowboarding titled Blender. Movie review aside (it will be on the short list come award season), the night was one to remember. Starting off with House Call Only’s latest project, Jake Durham and Derrek Lever were on hand to intro the movie and their on screen risks paid off in full with the crowd going wild through the entirety of the hometown-homie-turned-worldwide feature. Ojo, Moore, Cameron, Bilodeau, Schubert and more were celebrated as their stacks were shown to the Minnesota scene.
And when we say Minnesota scene, we mean the whole damn thing. Joe Sexton, Justin Froniues, Brady Lem, Jake OE, Jonas Michilot, Boody, Danimals, Craiger and plenty more were there from the moment the doors were unlocked until they locked us out. Friends that couldn’t make it Facetimed in as the party filled both floors of the Varsity Theater in the downtown area of Minneapolis. After a short intermission following House Call, Pat Bridges took the stage with Tommy and Director Colton Feldman to thank everyone and start the main feature. Blender—a must watch for any fan of snowboarding—exceeded all expectations. Featuring Tommy Gesme, Ben Bilodeau, Craig Cameron, Louif Paradis, Mark Wilson, Derrek Lever, Artem Smolin, Alex Sherman and more with Colton Feldman and Hayden Rensch behind the lens, it is the second signature project in just as many years from adidas Snowboarding. There are DVD’s floating around from a limited run of zines created for the premiere, but if you don’t know someone that has one, you will have to wait until it drops online next month.
As the movie played, Tommy’s friends and teammates snuck behind stage to find a small stash of jerseys dawning his name. One by one, they were instructed to discretely put them on underneath their coats until further notice. Ten minutes later, Blender wrapped up, and adidas’ Alex Sherman took the mic to introduce a special video from Louif Paradis. Apologizing for his absence, Louif then broke the news of the night via vertical video and welcomed Tommy as the newest global pro for adidas snowboarding. Friends and family immediately dawned the Gesme three stripe jerseys as they surrounded Tommy with champagne and presented him with his signature boots.
The party immediately went from an 11 to 15. Everyone snagged pictures with the star of the night and partied outside under the marquee while passers-by looked on in equal parts amusement and questioning. The majority of attendees were seen at bars within walking distance until closing time, and we are sure somewhere in Minneapolis, they are still partying. All in all, we’d say it was a pretty nice night to be in Minnesota. We can’t thank adidas and Tommy enough for having us! Huge congrats to Tommy, it was a hell of a way to earn your stripes.
