Gnu packed up the viking helmets and headed north of the border to Mount Seymour, BC for the third stop of the Greenhorn Games – The Coolest 13 and Under Contest in the World!

The kids around Vancouver, BC are stoked…Mount Seymour continues to be one of the raddest spots in North ‘Merica with a legit parks, tons of pow and an amazing legacy in the history of our fair sport. The McGuire Hit (Snowboarder Mag Spring ’97 cover), The City Booter, Whiskey Booter, Cashen, Kearns, Dead Sailor Cliff, the Dave Lee Gap…everywhere you look there are the ghosts of past videos, magazine pages and general infamy. With so much history to feed off of you can only imagine the potential of today’s groms.

Surrey’s favorite son, DWD owner, Think Thank’er and recently announced Bent Metal team-rider Sean Genovese was our host for the long weekend and kept us occupied with pow runs, Mexican dominoes, poutine, free wi-fi and Old Style Pilsner.

The day of the event we were greeted with clearing skies as over 30 kids showed up for our second annual stop. It was amazing how much they had progressed in a year. Proper presses, one-footed antics and legit NW methods were mixed in with first-time-ever kinked box rides, 5 year old jibbers and hot-dog burps. Lib Tech’s Jesse Burtner shared the emcee duties with Snowboy Productions grunt and recently hired Mervin Mfg. head Kevin “Rodeo” Turner who kept the parents entertained and made questionable comments regarding Santa Claus. Everybody was learning new tricks, meeting new friends and shaking off the slams.

An all-star cast of poachers including Poler’s Jake Kuzyk and nearly the entire DWD team of Jeff Keenan, Chris Brewster, Chris Larson and Brandon Hupp lapped through the course and stoked out the kids. Thanks to Sarah and the crew from Coastal Riders for helping with the BBQ, Disco Stu and the amazing sponsors GNU, Lib Tech, Arnette, POW, HCSC, Poler Stuff, Snowboarder Magazine and Boardroom for supporting the future of snowboarding.
