Rider Profile: Lucas Magoon

Few professional snowboarders are as renowned or as polarizing as Lucas Magoon. Easily one of the most influential riders of the last decade, Lucas has spent much of that time stigmatized as a cautionary tale of how easy it is to squander talent when given too much too soon. Yet the fact remains that Gooner spawned a style that launched a thousand tall tee swivels, rewrote the book on afterbang and helped make Sunday in the Park appointment viewing. Admittedly, Lucas’s persona has its detractors, but they, too, seem compelled to tune in to see what sort of tangential take on trickery he’ll unveil next. This past winter, more pros were interested in updates on Lucas’ output–riders like Louif Paradis, Jed Anderson and Ståle Sandbech–than the rest of the The SNOWBOARDER Movie: SFD marquee combined. To each of these queries we simply barked, “He’s rackin’ and stackin’.” – Pat Bridges
