Winter has started. While most of us in the Northern Hemisphere spend May through November waiting for the temperatures to drop and the lifts to start spinning, once they do we’re only part way there. Early December, it’s time to watch weather reports and triple check NOAA to find storm patterns that could blanket the hills in fresh snow. No matter if you live on the White Mountains or in the Sierra Nevadas, the passion for powder is universal and as the season kicks into gear, the real waiting game begins. To celebrate the time-honored tradition of waiting for the snow to fall, here are some of our favorite backcountry photos taken during the past winter. Enjoy.
