Premiere season is upon us, and it's one of my favorite times of year. Industry heads and snowboarders from the furthest reaches of the globe converge in a melting pot of party frenzy. This year, I self-bestowed the unfortunate and glorious goal to try and get to as many premieres as possible. I take pride in supporting my friends, as well as representing SNOWBOARDER as a fashion icon and snowboard personality.
That being said, I have gone to ten premieres in the past three weeks. My mind is jam packed with current snow knowledge, and there is somewhat of a small dull pain where my liver once was, but I'm happy to say that I'm caught up on all the movies. One of my favorite videos this year is the highly anticipated Deja Vu movie, Encore. I've had plenty of times to watch this masterpiece, as I attended three of their premieres already. Not only does this video feature some of my favorite riders, but they had two years to stack for one of the most highly anticipated jib flicks of the year. Add in Jake Kuzyk and Dillon Ojo into the crew, and we have one of the heaviest group of rail riders to date. I'll save the details, because this movie is one you'll have to see for yourself. Everyone has insane stuff, and arguably, most of the parts are ender material in my eyes.
Aside from creating an amazing movie, these guys know how to party…well, Frank April knows how to party. Fresh off the scene at the Seattle premiere, where I taught him how to do keg-stands, followed immediately by the 2032 premiere, he and I both ended up in Venice at the Arbor headquarters. This was my first time going to the Arbor HQ, and I have to say that they have the perfect space for a premiere. The movie played and I was amazed to see everyone seated and all eyes were glued to the screen. The turnout was great, and it was really refreshing to see that the crowd was excited to see every second of the movie. What was even more interesting was what ensued afterwards.
Frank happened. Enter the chicken fight. So, the rules for the chicken fight are that you hold one knee behind your back with one hand, while the other hand is holding your ear. Two people assume the position and hop on one leg, trying to knock their opponent over. Frank and Eero Niemala decided to battle, as the whole crowd chanted, "Chicken fight!" over and over. Eero was reluctant to try, but a stoic Louif appeared out of the crowd, grabbed the beer out of his hand, and gave him a head nod for approval. Eero was commanded to fight. The first two rounds went well in Eero's favor as first, Frank went barreling head first into a wall, and then they proceeded to almost knock a wooden fence over into the adjacent alley. This was a battle royale of two beastly men that were hopped up on Rockstar and beer. In the end, Frank was victorious, as the last fight (winner takes all) was won by the black-bearded French Canadian, mostly because Eero made a miscalculation and slipped on the concrete.
The rest of the night is history. Oh, and make sure to watch Encore. There’s more tour stops, it will soon be available on iTunes, and until then, watch the Encore intro.
