Nike 6.0 Olympic Hopefuls

BEAVERTON, OR ‐ December 11, 2009 ‐ Nike 6.0 team athletes Ellery Hollingsworth, Mason Aguirre, Kevin Pearce, and Elena Hight will compete in this year's first US Olympic Snowboard Team qualifier during the Copper Mountain stop of the Gand Prix event series, December 10‐12th.

As current contenders for the US Olympic Team, these four athletes will be among the top competitors to follow during the five‐event qualifying series beginning in December and culminating in Park City on January 23, 2010, where the US Olympic Snowboard team will be announced.
Kevin Pearce
Pearce, 22, often tagged as one of the hardest working professional snowboarders, consistently displays unparalleled determination to master the most complex pipe runs and tricks. As a committed supporter of action sports, Nike 6.0 built a private halfpipe with a training airbag for Pearce and his friends last spring, to help support him on his road to Vancouver.
Ellery Hollingsworth
Hollingsworth, 18, has caught the attention of the snowboard community in recent years, consistently making her way to the podium at major events such as last season's US Open of Snowboarding and the Cover Girl Sno Angels Invitational. A leader in the progression of woman's snowboarding, Hollingsworth recently became the first female to land a 1080 during practice and hopes to perfect the trick to secure her spo on the Olympic team. On and off the snow, Hollingsworth is known for her style and worked closely with the Nike 6.0 product team to influence the women's collection.
Mason Aguirre
In 2006, Aguirre earned a spot on the US Olympic Snowboard team, returning from Torino, Italy with a fourth place finish in the halfpipe competition, just shy of medaling. Known for his fun‐loving and relaxed attitude both on and off the slopes, Aguirre has put extra time and focus into preparing for the qualifying events and reaped the benefits of the Nike 6.0 private alf‐pipe in Mammoth last spring.  This year marks the 22‐year‐old's return to the Olympic spotlight as he competes for a second shot at the gold medal.
Elena Hight
Hight, 22, also traveled to Torino, Italy, in 2006 where she earned a sixth place finish. This season, she hopes to return to the Olympics with the US team, while once again going for a medal. A lifelong athlete, Hight began snowboarding professionally at age 14, and has since established a name for herself as one of the sport's top female athletes. Her list of competitive accomplishments includes podium finishes at the 2008 Vans Cup, 2008 Aspen Snow Angel Invitational and the 2007 Grand Prix tour.

Two up‐and‐coming snowboarders, who have been gaining momentum in the past year, are Nike 6.0's Matt Ladley and Greg Bretz. Ladley and Bretz, both 18, turned heads last year as two of the season's most unexpected, yet impressive young‐guns on the contest scene. Representing the next generation of snowboarders, they have the snowboarding community buzzing about their chances of making the Olympic team.
