Welcome to the 2019 Blackboard Experiment! How do you select the snowboard that's perfect for you? SNOWBOARDER Magazine is here to help with The Blackboard Experiment, a blind board test in which a fleet of freestyle snowboards, all with black topsheets and bases, are put to task by one rider to determine the best in each discipline (carving, jibbing, jumping, and transition) and the best overall.

Pat Moore was the obvious choice for our latest edition. He is one of the most talented snowboarders of his generation when it comes to any and all terrain and… Pat doesn't have a board sponsor, so he can freely strap into whatever setup he pleases. Filming countless video parts as a member of the illustrious Forum team, laying to waste both backcountry booters and consequential street spots, Pat has come along way from the time where SNOWBOARDER Editor Tom Monterosso was his coach at Waterville Valley in New Hampshire. He's had openers, and enders, including segments in Grenade movies and Volcom videos. He's had his own web series for multiple years and his own film. In short, Pat is one of the best of the best, so who better to put a fleet of snowboards to the test?

Last season, the SNOWBOARDER crew assembled at Aspen Snowmass with Mr. Moore in Colorado to test the latest freestyle offerings on the lengthy park runs. In one lap, Pat could double down on handrails, air off pristine pipe walls, and launch over jumps. And for a week, he did just that, rating each snowboard in the four categories mentioned above (carving, jibbing, jumping, and transition). Below are the results that might just help you decide on a board this winter. Check back over the coming weeks to see what he thought about each board, and which one took home the awards.
